Creating Search Engine Friendly Pages
The reason why you create a website is to have people see it. The biggest source for anyone finding your website would be to find you listed in a Search Engine. A big portion of site traffic for most sites come from search engines like Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Altavista, Ask and so forth. Keeping this in mind, a site with search engine friendly pages will get listed easier in search engines and get more visitors. Search engines use programs that send out robots called spiders or crawlers to read the content of web pages, follow the links and read the content of those pages which is then recorded in their database. When someone uses their search engine it pulls up these listings for them. The goal of any webmaster is to get their site listed in the search engines. However, creating a site that is created for both site visitors and search engine robots can be a little tricky. Create websites that are aesthetical in theme and easy to navigate. Links that are titled properly are self explanatory and your visitor will know exactly what they'll get when the link is clicked. Avoid using too many images on your website. Search Engine robots cannot read image files so it is best to use Text when creating Internal and External links. Avoid using frames if at all possible. Search Engine robots are confused by them. A page within a page. PHP or SSI includes is your best solution if you really need to create a Frame like page. You maybe tempted to add Flash Movies and Animated Images on your site. If you have to, use as sparingly as possible. Avoid inserting them on your home page. Some of these have large files and may take your page longer to load because of it. Depending on your site visitors internet connection, this can be one of the reasons why they leave your site. Make sure to utilize your HTML meta tags, site title and site description. Use the meta tags accordingly on each and every page of your site. This will help the search engine robots know at first glance what that particular page is about and whether or not to index it. Adding the proper information for every important landing page on your site in your site's meta tag will make it easier for the Search Engines to catalog your site. Inserting the apporpriate robot tag will ensure that the robots come back on the specified intervals to respider your site again. Avoid inserting too many javascripts or styles within your HTML Head tags. The scripting can confuse the search engine robots and it slows down the page load of your site. Instead learn and use CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) they are more effective and efficient. The entire behaviour of your web page can be included within your custom CSS style sheet, including javascripts. By using CSS, you can eliminate redundant HTML tags and make your pages much lighter and faster to load. Most importantly, your site text content should include your targeted keywords. This is often time one of the biggest blunders that new site owners make, creating their site with text that do not contain any of their keywords. The keywords inserted into the keyword meta tag should be sparodically seen and read by the search engine robots on the same page. If you create your site for the search engines you will get your site listed! |

I like the way you said very little really using lot's of words. For the technically proficient this was great intel. But for the average Joe it was about as useful as a bicycle to a fish

Thank you for reading and taking the time to express your view. I do find it interesting that you would consider explanation point by point, written in simplistic English of little significance and useless for the a non-technical person but good for one that is technical. Interesting point of view indeed.
"PHP or SSI includes is your best solution if you really need to create a Frame like page. " How many non tech users will actually understand this sentence. I say PHP most people say what. I say Oh don't worry not your problem, it's the best web programming language... They say Oh. It may be point to point, but the industry terms are above most users.
