Adobe Photoshop for the Clueless
You leave the computer store and race home with your new toy. You rip the wrapping off and get it into your computer before you can even sit down at your desk. You are like a kid in a candy store with your new Adobe Photoshop. But once you get it up and you are ready to play, you realize that you are absolutely clueless. Well, since you’ve spent the money and are totally excited about your new purchase, you better take a moment to learn a little bit about Adobe Photoshop. If you purchased Adobe Photoshop for your designing graphics for your business, you've made a great decision. It is by far one of the best program I've ever use. It is true, Adobe Photoshop will work wonders for your photographs and allow you to create wonderful, crisp, clear images. The problem is that you have to know how to do these things. Here is a basic, high information, low technical version of how you can start having tons of digital fun. First, hopefully, before you buy, you have done some research. Which Photoshop product do you have? If you have Photoshop Elements, you will be able to create better-looking photos in less time. This Photoshop product offers a combination of speed and ease. With the advanced controls you will be able to change color and lighting in a flash. Literally. The Flash technology will have beautiful photos complete in a matter of seconds. If you have Photoshop Album Start Edition 3.0 software, you will be able to loose your photographer’s phone number. You will be able to create professional prints on your own. Capturing unforgettable moments from family gatherings and vacations. A single click will correct common photo problems like red eye and excessive brightness. These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Photoshop products. The basic steps you need to know are similar in all of them but there are some variances. In all of the following sets of instructions, the X represents the version of Photoshop that you have. To get your brushes to work you need to place the *.abr. files into Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements X\Presets Brushes. To set up your layer styles, put the *abr. files into Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements X\Presets\styles. To get your patterns going, place the *pat files into Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements X\Presets\Patterns. If you want to rename a series of files, open the file in the browser. You can do this by holding down Shift-Ctrl on Windows and Shift +Command on Apples. Go to the folder that has the file you want to rename. Choose a set of files by highlighting them with the shift key. By holding the Ctrl key down you can click on more files. Click anywhere on the images you selected and pick Batch Rename. To turn clip art into line art open the image in Photoshop. The image must be TIFF, PNG or BMP form and the color mode must be RGB. In the layers palette click the black and white button and click on Threshold. Once the Threshold dialogue shows up, the image will be changed into line art. To increase or decrease the black move the slider back and forth until you are satisfied with the results. You can create stunning black and white photos with Photoshop. Black and white photos are actually shades of gray and you can use your software to create them from color photos. To remove color from a photo you need to know how to de-saturate. Some programs have a de-saturation button and other programs call it color removal, but even if your program does not have either one of these, you can still de-saturate. In Photoshop you will need to click on Image>Adjust<De-saturate and the color will be gone from your photo. It may take you hours and days to get use to the steps needed to create or enhance your images, but it will be worth it in the long run. Fortunately with the internet open 24 hours a day 365 days a week, you can get help whenever you need it.
